VideOftheDay Oct 31st – Cirque du Freak Trailer

I’m gonna try this -- bear with me -- as I try and post a video each day :) Will be completely random, and just for fun ^^;
I’ll start off my VideOftheDay (cool title, no?) with the most recent Vampire movie to hit the big screen -- Cirque du Freak. Perfect for Halloween, eh? :P
I actually saw this today (well, it was the 30th, but whatever) and really enjoyed it. You’ll find Cirque du Freak appear on my “Now Reading” section pretty quick. The character development really sucked (and I mean really) but it had the action that I was dying for, and there are… VAMPIRES! I absolutely love vampires.
Warning: Spoilers start here. I’m not gonna give away the ending, but if you want to see it, I tell how it all gets set up, and it will kinda ruin the surprise.
We start off at Darren’s funeral. But he’s not quite dead. He’s playing on his cellphone as the dirt is piled on his coffin. …wtf, right?
Okay, so what it’s about -- basically, Darren is a goody-good, and his BFF Steve is bad-boy. The movie starts out with Steve convincing Darren to skip class, and they break lights. Darren gets in trouble, parents go psycho (he’s ruining his life by hanging out with Steve) and they ground him for 2 months. Not to mention that they say he can’t hang around with Steve anymore. So Steve went from BFF to Secret BFF. Poor guy.
But they are given a poster for a freak circus in town -- the Cirque du Freak -- and decide to sneak out to see it. And here’s where it gets interesting. One of the performers is a vampire and has this awesome spider. Darren loves spiders, Steve loves vampires. So when Darren goes to steal the spider (!) Steve asks vampire to turn him -- and is turned down.
Darren sees all this, but gets away with the spider anyways. So when he brings the lovely thing to school, and Steve sees… well, it all goes down the shitter. Steve gets bitten by highly poisonous spider, and the only way the Big Bad Vampire will give Darren the antidote is if he agrees to go half-vampire himself, and become an assistant (hence “The Vampire’s Assistant as this movie’s title). Well, Darren goes for it…
And then, it’s full circle -- time to die. Now the fun begins.

So I was watching the Disney channel earlier today (Yes, cartoons are a guilty pleasure of mine :P) and one of their “What a Life!” things came on. I only caught a bit of it but I thought it was kinda cool -- Japanese puppet shows, where the kid does sound effects or something. So… just out of curiosity, I decided to Google and see if I could find anything about it.
Well, I did. I found it right on YouTube. Amazing how my vague search gave me the right results!
Isn’t that an awesome little deal? I’d love to see one of those shows in person. And if you’re curious, the kid is called The Great Mario and is available for parties.

Greg is slightly annoyed

So the server that we’re on has been having some problems lately, and since I’m very rarely around (unless you count me being up until 4am reading fanfic – yes mother, I know you’re reading this as I type) I don’t notice when it goes down. So I decided to fork out the cash for server monitoring. Well, apparently around 12 hours ago they got an alert that the server wasn’t responding.
And apparently, nothing else happened. Grrr.
We got the http alert around 12 hours back, and which immediately followed by recovery alert. But haven’t got any alerts in last couple of hours. Realizing it as an fault at our end, I am escalating this ticket to our senior administrator to see whether there is anything wrong with our monitoring systems. Also we didn’t had the root password to your servers, till this moment to investigate the reason for the alert also.
But at least it’s fixed (obviously) and back online. I really do like these guys :) They’re super friendly to idiots like me. And by golly, they know their stuff.

Cassandra Clare

So, awhile back I was at Target and I decided to pick up Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones on a whim. Over the next… week or so? I dunno if it was even that long, I read all three books in the trilogy, and really enjoyed them.
Well, I’m doing my normal browsing around (Today’s process involved a French Percy Jackson website, which had something about The Mortal Instruments, so I googled that and then I looked up movie info and then….) I find out she’s making the trilogy into a four book series!!!!!!! What the?!
Apparently, the fourth book – City of Fallen Angels – is due out March 11, 2011, and will be focusing on Simon. Which, I must admit… I’m not too impressed by. I didn’t much care for Simon’s character in the initial three books and now having a book centered around him… well, that may be one that I won’t pick up. Like how I’m not so sure I’ll be picking up her new trilogy – The Infernal Devices – since it centers on Magnus. It was Clary and, later on, Jace that really got me into the stories. Simon was always a rather hated side character, and I would have been perfectly fine if he had been cut from the series. The fact that he gets vampire-ized makes me wonder if it was piggybacked off of Twilight at all… but Twilight came in 2005, and I have a feeling that most of the trilogy was complete by that time. (Bones in 2004, Ashes in 2005, and Glass in 2006, and iirc, he goes vampire in Ashes)
Anyways, I may or may not pick it up. I’ll have to keep an eye on things to see if it’ll still focus on Clary/Jace (oh, I want to say sooooo much about them but I need to reread and make a BIG spoiler warning! XD)
I will, however, be catching the midnight release of the movie when it comes up! Yet another movie that I have to keep my eyes out for ;o; Now if only they’d make Truesight into one…..

I think I might try and condense any day’s Percy Jackson/Septimus Heap info into a “Today’s” post. Maybe that’ll make it easier to read. ;p Or maybe I’m just being lazy tonight and only want to make one post regarding two different deals.

Percy and Septimus…

So these two are pretty much the big fandom that I talk about here on the blog (so far) right? Well, when I got to meet Angie Sage (see this post) she said that she doesn’t read any other fantasy -to keep from ending up like Paolini, where half of his work is taken from other stories. :P (It’s okay Chris, I still like Eragon!! Brisingr was a bit much tho)
Well, Rick’s family apparently doesn’t follow the same deal. Rick, btw, is the Percy Jackson author. I was reading his blog (now on my favorites!) and came across this gem:
On the reading front, Becky and Patrick are both reading their way through Angie Sage’s Septimus Heap series and really loving it.
Patrick is his son, and I can only assume that Becky is his wife. How AWESOME is that? And really, how can you not love Septimus Heap? :P
Also from his blog, apparently The Lightning Thief is getting a new edition. I guess I’ll just get this (comes out November 3rd) to replace my icky softcover.
Speaking of which, I also need the special 10th edition copy of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone book… too much to buy!!
