DATS Image Uploader updates

As you may or may not have noticed, all the images on the blog here are uploaded to img.dats.us – this is my personal (and well, rest of the DATS people use it sometimes too) image uploader.

It works pretty much like tinypic or imageshack or whatever, except that… well, I host it. :P And it requires the most secure thing ever – a PASSWORD!

Anyways, I spent some time and prettified it up. Now it has the DATS logo on it, and it also prints out a code, so that when I use it here on the blog (or anywhere else, I guess) I don’t have to type that out manually. Laziness ftw, I guess. :)

I did some other stuff, I guess, like making the title a link and adding more margin + a top border, but nothing really big. It’s just making it look a bit better, and a bit more useful. I can’t really think of anything else I could do with it. xD

I’m still waiting for QC to finish up my Magykal.net layout… I wonder how she’s doing…

Also, for anyone following that Percy/Nico epic, chapter 9 has come out for the third story. I finally got around to reading it today! :)

Twittering out the blog

I dunno why, but I added a bunch of twitter stuff here on the blog. Which really isn’t that important, since the biggest day I’ve had was a total of 8 people, it’s not like many come. Haha.

Anyways, there’s now a twitter thing on the sidebar where you can follow me, and all the posts now have a “tweet” button, where you can tweet the title of the blog. Kinda cool, I guess.

The other thing I added was a “Now Reading” which shows the book I’ve been attempting to read since the release date – Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol. I’m only like half-way through now… still! It’s absurd how long it’s taking me to read it. Haha. I’ll try and keep it up to date when I pick up new books. Though I dunno what I’ll do if I try and read two at once… I read Syren during my reading of The Lost Symbol. ;p

How to find this blog

Apparently, people find it by asking what happens in Syren and when googling for “Percy/Nico”

I am amused.

Note regarding Percy/Nico

New OTP is awesome.

OTP, by the way, means “one true pairing”. Hehe.

“Family Dinner” – that one? I left a review on ff.net and the author was happy. :) She responded to me, seems pretty cool.

And the one I linked to and mentioned in the Fandom post? Well, that story is actually the 3rd in a series. Well, today I read the first. Tomorrow I will read the second. <_>

It’s a Percy/Nico love story, durr, and very cute. It’s somewhat canonical, but completely ignores the final book. Kinda have to for the story to work. But there is no problem with cutting out a book to make a cute love story happen :)

It starts with “Too Strong a God” and can be found here.

Squee~ ^^

A little love story is cute

NOTE: This post has slight spoilers for the Percy Jackson series, including a character that doesn’t appear until the 3rd book. (Or maybe the second, I dunno) As well as his parentage. I also talk about how the series ends briefly :P

Every now and then, I tend to get kinda down. Today was one of those days. I don’t really have a reasoning for being down, it’s just… sigh. So what is there to cheer me up? Sometimes I’ll bug my friends, or I’ll play some games, or whatever… today, I decided to continue in my quest for understanding of the Percy Jackson fandom. And to do that, I found fanfic.

And I think I found my new OTP. Nico, by the way, is my favorite character in the books. I’m always a fan of the kinda depressing-emo-whatever characters. Lone wolfs in Digimon, whatever. But yeah, Nico was my favorite character from the moment he arrived. He’s got the whole my-life-sucks-cuz-I’m-Hades’-kid deal going on.

SO, without further ado, I rec Family Dinner by Amethyst Grey to you. It follows canon for the most part – even with the Annabeth girlfriend thing that comes at the end of book 5. But basically, it’s a heartwarming series about the dating Percy and Nico having their parents (Sally, Poseidon, and Hades) over for dinner. It has the quirks of canon and still has that fun little lovey-dovey theme that can just make you giggle, especially the ending scene.

It’s a quick one shot, and only 7,000 words so a quick read. But wahhh it’ll make you smile :)

You can find it HERE – it’s been added to my list of favorites! ^^

And durr, if you haven’t gotten it already, it’s slash. As in Nico/Percy GAYSEX. Woo!

Percy Jackson Fandom

Well.

I really really really should have just stopped after I made that last post. But I didn’t. Haha. Now I’ve come across the main(?) LJ community for Percy Jackson: cabinthree.

A few of the highlights:
logan at a party – where Logan (Percy) is at a party, drunk, and talks very vulgarly. I’m sure his agent loved that.
fear the hoodie – some icons one of which is totally epic.
Percy/Nico slash fanfic – it was at this point that I came to write the post. :)
logan stalking – he really is relatively cute (and here is part 1 – features shirtless logan)
r rated rachel/nico – nico is 12…
percy fanart – not lj, but cute :)

Apparently, next book comes out in Winter 2010 and will add a new twist to it all (?.?) Egyptian gods?

And finally, Percy Jackson versus The Hulk.

Fandom rocks. I rest my case.

Wow are there a lot of pics of Logan. If he was only a tad older, I would be a very happy gay boy. Hehe.

More Percy Jackson

I have to admit – when I first picked up the series, it was at the suggestion of my boss at work! I’m still quite amazed that I managed to actually grow to like something she suggested to me :P Though I suppose it’s all OK, since she’s a big fan of Harry Potter too… and Narnia! Can’t forget good ole Narnia :)

Well, I was browsing around (actually google searching for Percy Jackson but yeah…) and I came across posters for the Percy Jackson movie coming out next February… the 12th, to be exact. I should start looking into buying next year’s planner, I have a lot of stuff I want to make sure I catch. The midnight showing of this is a definite!!

Percy
The main character of the books, obviously :P
Percy

Annabeth
Percy’s rival/sidekick/love interest… whatever you want to call her
Annabeth

Grover
Percy’s BFF. And a half-goat thing.
Grover

Well, you already know what I think of Percy’s actor – the more I see of Logan, the more impressed I become. He fits the role pretty well, and he seems to come into the character well. Annabeth… well, I haven’t seen much of her in action. The actress, Alexandra Daddario, is another nobody for the most part, she’s done some TV stuff (All My Children?! I used to watch that all the time..! As a kid, of course. You know, mother’s soap operas?) but nothing that I’ve ever really seen. She kinda reminds me of Lindsay Shaw, the few shots of her I’ve seen.

Now Grover. Wowwww. I was not expecting him to be black. He’s played by Brandon Jackson, who is… 24. Hoshit. That’s a little unexpected. But it’s actually matching to Grover’s age in the books – he’s like double what age he plays. Or something like that. I always envisioned Grover as being… well, Mr. Tumnus.

Mr. Tumnus

Like in this picture which came out with one of the books… Demigod Files maybe?

But I’ll wait to pass judgement on more trailers, or the movie itself! Too long to wait. Heh.

Why Wikipedia doesn’t work

Reference this, reference that.

That is why Wikipedia does not work – if you don’t have some sort of online reference, you’re screwed. I actually got to meet Angie Sage – brilliant, I can tell you, as per the last post – but when I try to get Wikipedia fixed to show that really, it’s not animated…

Bingo, it’s been undone. And why? Need a goddamn fucking reference. [/swearing]

The problem lies in how the media works. When one person says something and is interpreted wrong, it just snowballs. Someone made some off-hand comment of how they’re working on the animation and all of the sudden, the movie is labelled as animation everywhere. And unless Angie were to post something on her website (which, for some reason, I doubt she’s allowed to) it’ll end up staying that way.

When I made my edit to Wikipedia, I changed the section
It was announced on July 17, 2009 that the movie will be animated, with David Frankel as director and Rob Lieber to adapt ”Magyk”.
to
It was announced July 17, 2009 that [[David Frankel]] will direct and Rob Lieber will be adapting ”Magyk”.
Which leaves it vague – I don’t say that it’s live action, because I don’t have a source. But at the same time, I take out the part about it being animated, because really, it isn’t!!! But Legolas2186 (nice original name, btw) changed it right back. I’d like to note here that he seems to claim ownership over the article.

Which, I might add, is another thing that ticks me off. Half the edits on Wikipedia seem to get rolled back to the head hancho’s last edit. But that’s for another time.

Simply put, references annoy me. Because really, it’s impossible to get them for everything.

Meeting Angie Sage

NOTE: This post has slight spoilers for the Septimus Heap series, especially what happens in Syren, the latest book.

\So this past week, I had an amazing experience: I got to meet Angie Sage! Yes, the author of the Septimus Heap series (which I’ve actually not talked about yet but will likely be making future posts in regards to) and some other series that I haven’t read but is apparently pretty fun.

It was a lot of fun – I had to drive to Downer’s Grove, IL for it, but it was totally worth it. If you don’t know, I live in lonely Minnesota, and so it was actually a 3-day trip. 8 hours one way. But WOW, the actual visit.

First off, she talked a bit about Syren. Syren is the latest book (number 5) in the series, and she talked about kinda what happens in it, and why. Apparently, she had always known that he’d at some day hit the islands, and that the story was originally intended to be part of Queste (number 4). But, as you might know from reading Queste – it was already long enough. Heh.

She really didn’t go into what happens in the book, since some of the audience hadn’t read the book yet (there were a bunch that bought it at the bookstore) but after kinda going over it, she read us the first chapter!! The first chapter was put online for people to read… or maybe it was in Queste, I can’t remember. But I had read it before I got the book. Anyways, she read it and did a really cool job of it. She wasn’t the amazing reader of say, the Harry Potter audio books, but she did do different voices and was really awesome sounding. :D

Then came the Q&A… of course, there were the romance questions. Such as Jenna & Beetle. She talked about them quite a bit, and basically said that Beetle was totally interested, but Jenna wasn’t quite sure yet. Jenna apparently isn’t sure of anything! Hehehe. Also asked about was Septimus, but she said there wasn’t really a romance planned for him. Personally, I think he’ll be getting together with Syarah (I might be spelling it wrong, sorry!) as there was some chemistry building between the two. But with the ending, who knows.

I asked about there being another book like The Magykal Papers, and she said maybe. It’ll depend on how well this one sells, as she has a lot of stuff about the Port and Marsh written out. I wished her luck ^^

The biggest question I think (aside from the little girl who was OBSESSED with Marcia – dressed up like her and everything. Even had the high purple boots!) was about the movie – it won’t be animated! Yay!!! Parts will, like Stanley and the Boggart, obviously, but it’ll be live action. That’s a big relief, but at the same time, kinda scary.

Queste and Syren both happen across about a week. Maybe two, it’s been awhile since I read Queste and I can’t remember how long they take to get to the House. That means we have two full movies that happen over a very short period of time – how do we deal with actors aging? Especially since in it, Septimus is like… 14? Something like that, and so it’s kinda an age where boys go ZOOM up. It’ll be a challenge, even moreso than Harry Potter.

But apparently, book #6 (which amazon.ca is listing as being titled Darke, but Angie says she hasn’t really gotten into the meat of) happens 12-18 months after Syren, so some aging will be allowed then. They’ll probably have to do a lot of the filming right in a row, and then let effects take over after. Or who knows. But at least we can be glad that it’s live action!!

After Q&A (which included a bunch of questions from Marcia-girl) she signed… and I got all 6 books signed!!! And with personal messages, including one that wishes me a safe journey home!

Angie Sage, you ROCK!! :D
