Putting Cirque du Freak to the side…

…so you all know, if by chance you actually follow what I’m reading, I didn’t finish Cirque du Freak book 7… I just decided to pick something else up while I wait for money to buy rest of the series online. x.x Or at Barnes & Noble, since Borders apparently refuses to stock again :(

When I went down to Chicago to meet Angie Sage, to support the bookstore, I ended up picking up Slam by Nick Hornby.

I’m only 87 pages in, but I’m enjoying it immensely. It’s done first person, which is either really good or just bomb. Hornby knows what he’s doing, and having a slightly psycho narrator (he talks to a poster, and thinks the poster talks back) is a lot of fun. Sam is a smart, fun narrator who is able to look at things both emotionally and objectively, and the mix of the two is interesting. It’s also cool how it’s written from the future, so you get the occasional break where he says stuff like “If only I had known then…”

Is there a term for that? When it’s written as a reflective flashback? (Or is that the term? Haha)

Anyways, it’s a lot of fun and I should probably go to bed (it’s 5am…) so that I can get up tomorrow and read some more of it :-)

Understanding my sister’s taste in music

So in an effort to try and understand my sister’s taste in music a bit more, I’ve been attempting to listen to a local radio station KDWB. They fall more into the hip-hop poppy kinda stuff, rather than the (soft) rock that I normally listen to.

One of the singers on there happens to be some kid named Justin Bieber. The only reason I even looked it up is because I rather liked the lyrics to his song “One Less Lonely Girl” and wanted to check the video. It’s rather cute – ranks up there with Plain White Tee’s 1234 in the “Awww” department.

Anyways, I thought I’d share this new talent, who appears to have gotten his start on YouTube. Whatcha know?

And then here’s his “main” song, One Time. First one is the official music video, second is an acoustic version that I actually rather liked. He does have a decent natural voice, which is better than most artists out there can say :-)

Here’s an old one, from before he got noticed. It’s a cover of “Angel” by Sarah Mclachlan and you can tell he’s still not great XD

OMG, another old one, where he’s singing Respect. His dancing makes me laugh. :3

Here’s a Lifehouse cover. I am a pretty big fan of Lifehouse, and I have to say that his version rather sucks… it’s too fast. But he tries, so that’s okay.

I didn’t look at rest of his videos, he covers a lot of songs that I simply do not know. HOWEVER. HOWEVER. There is one there that is beyond win. Beyond win.

Why? Because it’s from one of my favorite movies :)

YES! August Rush! That is a really epic scene, and I love the soundtrack for the movie. (Both, actually. The instrumental and the one with the vocal songs on it. Did you know there are two?)

Well, that’s it for now. Enjoy tonight’s random bit on some random kid that’s rather ugly. (His face isn’t laid out right…)

Old websites…

Just some old websites that are online again :-D

I don’t think they work, since the code I used to use doesn’t work with PHP5… only 4. :-(

Maybe someday I’ll get the ambition to make them usable again :-)

The Blue Card, a Digimon fansite.
Kree, a website for my irc bot. :p
Guardian Chronicles, a CLAMPish website that Ali did all the work for and I barely ever touched :-/
Broken Dreams, a Takato fansite.
FreeFMA, a Fullmetal Alchemist website.

Not up anywhere right now is PokeVillage and JKaizer.Net, which I should see if I have back-ups of anywhere… I’d like to set them all up on aredmoon.net subdomains, and make them navigatable again, maybe even try and update them a bit. xD Brotherhood is out for FmA, TBC still says Savers is airing in Japan, the OVAs were never mentioned on GC, and I don’t think I ever did much beyond the layout for BD. xD!

Oh, and of course, there are my current ones, and if I get the time, I think I’ll add all of these guys to it. ^^; I hate seeing them die~ :(

Today in Percy Jackson

Well, first off, I added a new story to my list of Percy/Nico fics :) The last one, Sometimes, My Life Just Sucks. Also, if you haven’t already, you really need to read The Ties that Bind!!! The latest chapter is quite enthralling.

Hmm, I came across another fansite to watch – Percy Quest.

Someone posted a clean copy of the 1st book cover here. Which is pretty awesome.

And speaking of the 1st book, the new edition of Lightning Thief has some pretty pictures in it. You can see them here.

We got a full and pretty picture-filled cast list here, so check it out. The casting for the Gods is pretty epic. :D

And cabinthree LJ members, you’ll want to read this. I can’t post it here cuz it’s FLocked, but it involves a scene in the movie. THAT SHOULD NOT BE THERE.

…and I’ll end this with a poem about Nico. Black as Night, Sweet as Sin. An excellent description of what it’d be like to kiss Nico. Mmhmm.

Done with book 6

In the Cirque du Freak series. That means that I have finished the first two trilogies in the series.

A bit of a spoiler warning here for the end of book 6, so unless you want your reading ruined, don’t read on:

So, another trilogy in and still no sign of Steve. The movie really did a shit job in keeping with the continuity of the books… he apparently doesn’t really appear again until 7. (Which is now on the Current Reading deal, except that I don’t have the book yet) I only know this because I am a sucker for spoilers (x.x) and read the Wikipedia ones for the next trilogy.

Anyways, I enjoyed this one. It introduced (and killed :() some cool new characters that would be fun to see in film version. Watching Arra and Darren on the bars would be AWESOME. Heh. Though I can’t say that it wasn’t pretty predictable, what Kurda would do. Shan did a good job, though, setting up his character and leading him to his demise. We knew what Kurda said in his trial was truth – he believed every word he said. It saddens me to know that we see this sort of thing all over in the world today.

I also really enjoyed the wolves and their roles. The old one, Marge or whatever her name was, was quite the story. The Little Train That Could, maybe? :) Shan really seems to have a thing for setting his characters up to die, doesn’t he? You can’t help but feel that she did right before dying.

Hmm… what else. Oh, yes, the ending. What. A. Bunch. Of. Bullshit. The Vampires that treasure their rules? Weren’t they having a FIT at the idea of Kurda, like 120 years old, being Princed? But yet they let 20 year old Darren? What the hell? That seriously does not work. But I suppose it works for Mr. Des[mond] Tiny. lawl.

Now I need to wait for a good coupon at Borders (Yeah, there is a 30% out, but that’s still not enough) or for me to get hired (♥) before I buy more.

…yeah, I have an interview this weekend :-)

Today’s Percy Jackson

So there hasn’t been too much in the Percy Jackson fandom lately. Still waiting eagerly for the movie, which I am sure will be absolutely and utterly awesome.

cabinthree has had some fun little things lately, including two awesome chapters of The Ties that Bind which I am totally digging. I also have a big idea of what’s happened, and it makes me kinda sad :(

One thing that they posted is a possible script for the movie. You can see it here, but I’m not going to read it. I don’t want to get spoiled for the awesomeness that will be the movie. :D

What IS okay to look at though are some of the on-set pictures that were posted here. The first picture has Logan and Alex holding giraffes. ♥ In case you didn’t know, giraffes are my favorite animals.

There are some really cool costume pics in that link, so make sure to pick it out. Logan is uber cute :D

Also, Amazon has posted up the movie cover of the first book. You know, the ones that show the cast? You can see it here and I must say that I am sorely disappointed. I was hoping for a brand new pic, you know? But it’s the same dumb movie poster.

DATS Image Upload

Which we have seen WAY too much of, seriously. :(

Added NaNo Status

So, yesterday I finally got a start on my NaNo. I ended up writing 4,307 words :-) Pretty impressive for one night, I’d say.

It’s (sadly) a Harry Potter fanfic, but I’m only doing that because I don’t have the time to add the background world into my work, so I’m piggybacking off of JKR’s world. However, I’m keeping it lose enough that by changing some stuff around, it could easily be just called a HP knock off :P

I did end up borrowing an idea from Rick too, with the Labrynth, and how it kinda moves and can be seen in various places.

It’s been kinda weird. I haven’t really written anything for a long time – I’m not very good – and so it’s been distinctly different, writing anything. And so much @_@

But yeah, my inspiration came from a posted plot bunny.
85) Dopplegangers: During a school trip to the Department of Mysteries, Albus Potter encounters two other children with green eyes. Both have an older brother named James. Both claim to be the second child of Harry Potter and his wife. Only their mothers are Cho Potter and Luna Potter respectively. Both claim to be on the same field trip. Yet only one may leave the Department of Mysteries. Possible 4th one, the child of Pansy Potter and Slytherin Harry.
I’m not following that exactly – there are actually a total of five of them – and it’s more of them getting stuck in a timeline-crossing room. Kinda like the House of Forynx (or however it’s spelled) from Queste.

So, after I get some more written, I’ll probably start posting it online for people to read. We’ll have to see :-)

Stopping VOtD

Well, I’ve decided to scrap the idea. It lasted less than a week, but I was already getting bored of it. Not to mention that it’s kinda hard to find interesting videos every day that aren’t all music videos.

…or from failblog :-)

VideOftheDay November 4th – Saturn Commercial

With the [relatively] news of Saturn closing down, I couldn’t help but think of this recent commercial.

It makes me kinda sad that so many companies are cutting back and closing down because of the recession. My mom, who cleans houses, has been losing clients… and a few of my extended family members have lost their jobs too.

I think the entire world should have just taken a 10% paycut, and everyone kept their jobs :-) Would’ve been much more productive.

VideOftheDay November 3rd – Granny Win

So, for today I’ll give you a classic. Granny vs car. And who wins?

I’ll admit something here – I’m not a fan of old people. I know they’re all sweet and stuff… sometimes. But I work retail, and there is one day that I just HATE. Senior Day. I don’t know if it’s just the area that I work in, or maybe it’s just my luck, but I always seem to get grumpy old people that whine and complain about Senior Day.

The most common problem is that we only offer it one day. Uh, it’s Senior Day. Be glad you’re getting any discount at all!!!

My availability actually has me as being unavailable on senior days. I’m just that awesome.

Disclaimer: I do not hate all old people. There are lots of old people that I love. It’s just… maybe it’s old people in retail. I didn’t grow to hate old people until I started in retail. At the park, I loved old people…
