I Tried
I Tried
Poem is © Greg Martin
No matter what I do
No matter how I try
I’m never good enough for you
But I tried.
I tired to pamper you,
Give you lots of chocolate,
But you just looked at me
And complained of an ache.
You’ve left me crushed
I just can’t continue.
You were everything,
Everything to me.
As I begin to feel pain,
Watch the blood trickle down,
I think about… no…
I dream about you
Such a beauty standing there
The water running over
Your toes
And I worshiped you.
But, your face…
Frozen in the cold,
It hurt, seeing you hurt…
Why did I care?
I hear a storm a’ coming,
And yet the crimson delight continues
To flow down my arm.
I await death.
I get up and walk
The shadow that follows me,
It’s nothing more than a
Shadow of a shadow.
My goddess, my sweat goddess,
As I stain the carpet,
I think of you…
But now I will die.
